    Hi, I’m using dvdate 8.3.7 and windows 11. I’m trying to figure out if I’m able to write out new avi file with date/time inlay only on each new day for 10 secs. I changed the settings in Edit the Inlay, and then run the Inlay in the Video command, but the inlay shows the date the entire video. Am I missing steps? Do I need to run my own template to use these commands? The template is much more complicated. I do have a background in unix scripts and c programming but very rusty. Worked at Motorola as electrical engineer doing microchip layout/CAD work over 20 yrs ago! LOL. But trying to figure out flow to transfer my 25yr old digital8 tapes onto my hardrive so everyone can watch and share. I don’t really want the timecode on the video the entire time. I found that after I have my 13gb avi files, I can break up into 3-4 smaller avi files manually in handbrake. Then it makes it easier to work with smaller avi files for any possible lighting editing, if necessary, and convert to about half size mp4 files. So far, dvdate has been very useful, and really enjoyed windows doc feature in helping cataloging big avi footage. Would love to use dvdate to add inlay in select spots without having to manually manipulate huge avi files! I noticed that datacode missing after I break up file in handbrake, so better to do upfront…

    Thanks! Any help awesome!

    I just found site where I could download version 7.1 of dvdate and I’m able to add inlay at each new day or new scene with custom settings. So, the latest version of dvdate 8.3 is broken for this once working feature. I’m still waiting for long runtime of old windows 8.1 to see if latest version of dvdate works on old os. Will update if it works, then possibly a windows 11 issue. But happy to use powerful freeware with these features. Maybe would be nice if you offered an old version or two in case others have similar sticking point. Always nice to have safe spot to download. Would love to know if this gets fixed so I can use latest version in future. Thx for great tool! 47 more tapes to capture and get into useable formats for family to enjoy 25yr old family tapes. 🙂

    So, DVDate 7x inlay custom settings works, but 8.x does not. I did look at .ini files to see if different, but looks like big overhaul between versions. But maybe inlay settings got typo/overlooked in .ini readings???

    dvdate 7x .ini file:
    When Incrust=2
    Duration of overlay=8
    What Incrust=0
    is Incrust On=0

    dvdate 8x .ini file:
    WhatIncrust=0 (no spaces in variable now)
    WhenIncrust=2 (no spaces in variable now)
    DureeIncrustation=8 (now same setting as before but in French, lol, I got translation)
    displayinlay=False (new settings)
    editinlay=False (new settings – I did customize time to 8 secs
    and wrote out inlay file before this, so not sure if
    this is overwriting my custom settings?)

    Not sure if helpful, but I looked to see if I could just change setting in .ini file manually and run latest version to get to work. I will not even try because it looks like 8x is looking for different settings now. Will stick with version 7.22 to do inlays at each new scene or day on huge avi files. Hopefully will not have to switch to 8x just to use other features… And hoping if you still edit this code that this is helpful. I haven’t written real code in 20 yrs, lol. But it’s like riding a bike, right? But I have my a solution for now to get me thru my project and maybe this will help others. And hopefully you won’t shut down other people’s sharing of other versions of your code. Because then we don’t have to wait for freeware to fix to get workaround… Thx! 🙂
